Elections Nova Scotia – Elections Nova Scotia (ENS) has entered into a Compliance Agreement with Kerry Foss, the Official Agent for the Liberal Electoral District Association (EDA) for the Electoral District of Preston. The compliance agreement covers a breach of the Elections Act related to a loan made by the EDA.

Elections Nova Scotia – Elections Nova Scotia’s (ENS) Annual Report for the 2021–2022 fiscal year is now posted on the ENS website at electionsnovascotia.ca.

This was a year of transition for ENS. The focus during the first half of the year was on the successful delivery of the 41st provincial general election, held August 17, 2021, including the integration of pandemic measures to ensure public safety. Following the election, ENS underwent debrief activities, began the post-election reporting, and embarked on a new strategic plan. ENS also experienced a change in leadership with the retirement of the Chief Electoral Officer, Richard Temporale in May 2022.
The annual report includes independently audited financial statements.

Elections Nova Scotia – Elections Nova Scotia (ENS) has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) through the Nova Scotia Tender website for an internet voting solution (RFP# ENS2022-01-RFP).
Through the RFP, ENS invites qualified firms to submit proposals that include all related software services, IT infrastructure and hosting services, as well as training, support, and the full management of a highly secure internet voting solution.

The Government of Nova Scotia made amendments to the Elections Act in 2021 to introduce a fixed date cycle for provincial general elections and to permit the use of internet voting, especially by those who are members of the Canadian Armed Forces stationed outside the province during an election event.

Elections Nova Scotia’s new four-year strategic plan lays out five commitments focused on improving electoral services for Nova Scotians, building relationships with stakeholders and partners, and supporting election workers. The plan outlines how ENS will continue to modernize the democratic process, enabling voters to access services and vote in ways that suit their needs. The plan was shaped by feedback from staff as well as from returning officers and stakeholders, such as registered political parties and the public.
