Nominations Closed; 176 candidates nominated

Nominations for the 2013 Provincial General Election closed at 2 pm today.  There are 176 candidates nominated in the 51 electoral districts: 51 each for the Nova Scotia Liberal Party, the Progressive Conservative Association of Nova Scotia, and the Nova Scotia New Democratic Party; 16 for the Green Party of Nova Scotia and 7 independent candidates.

Condos and Apartments Must Provide Access to Candidates

 

Elections Nova Scotia has received a number of complaints from candidates that they have been refused access to apartment building and condominium projects.  It is an offence under the Elections Act to impede a candidate campaigning or enumerator gathering information for the Registry of Electors.

Reports of Telephone Survey Calls Leading to Misinformation

 

Elections Nova Scotia has received information that residents in the electoral district of Truro-Bible Hill-Millbrook-Salmon River have received calls from a survey firm reportedly located in Toronto.  The calls ask questions about preference and provide a list of candidates to the respondents.  The name they provide for the Liberal candidate is incorrect.

Electrical Fire Closes Returning Office in New Glasgow

September 12, 2013 -- The Returning Office for the electoral district of Pictou Centre, located at 558 South Frederick St. in New Glasgow, has been closed due to an electrical fire.  There were no injuries.  Elections Nova Scotia is working to re-open the returning office on Friday, September 13, 2013 at a new location.

Elections Nova Scotia will announce the new location of the Pictou Centre returning office as soon as possible.
