Nova Scotia Elections Commission

The Election Commission is established under Section 356 of the Elections Act. The purpose of the Commission is to advise the Chief Electoral Officer regarding the administrative conduct of elections and the administration of the electoral finance regime; piloting of a procedure, equipment or technology; and initiation or conduct of studies respecting the voting procedure, voting by persons with disabilities, and improvements to the electoral finance regime. The Commission is composed of:

  • a Chair, appointed by the Governor in Council for a term of 5 years; and
  • 2 persons appointed by each of the leaders of a recognized party as defined in the House of Assembly Act for terms of 2 years each unless otherwise specified.
