Returning Office Open for Early Voting
The returning office for the electoral district of Sydney River-Mira-Louisbourg is open for early voting. The returning office is open every Monday to Saturday from 9 am – 6 pm. The office is closed on Sundays. On Thursday, August 29 and Friday, August 30, the returning office will be open from 9 am – 8 pm. On election day, September 3, the returning office will be open from 8 am to 8 pm.

Voter Information Card (VIC)
If you live in Argyle-Barrington, Northside-Westmount, or Sydney River-Mira-Louisbourg and are on the Nova Scotia voters list, you should receive a voter information card (VIC) in the mail. Your VIC includes options for voting before election day as well as where and when to vote on election day (September 3, 2019). Take your VIC with you when you go to vote, for faster service.
If you received a VIC addressed to someone else, or there are errors on the VIC, bring it with you went you vote so that Elections Nova Scotia can correct the information on the voters list.
No VIC? No problem, eligible voters in Argyle-Barrington, Northside-Westmount, or Sydney River-Mira-Louisbourg can still vote in the by-election without a VIC. Just bring identification with you proving your legal name and civic address (the place where you live) when you go to vote.
Candidate and Party Spending Limits for the Sydney River-Mira-Louisbourg By-election
Amounts in the Elections Act (updated to include CPI adjustments):
Initial Number of Electors: 15,145 (as of August 2, 2019)
Candidate Spending Limit*: $84,850.31
Maximum Candidate Reimbursement: $24,514.14
Registered Party Spending Limit for each district in which a by-election is being held: $6,471.50
Third Party Maximum Spending in each district in which a by-election is being held: $2,261.58
*Candidate spending limit may be adjusted upwards if there is an increase in number of electors on the Final List of Electors. The final list will be completed after election day.
Write-in Ballot Application
If you are eligible to vote in the Sydney River-Mira-Louisbourg district and wish to vote by write-in ballot, you can download the write-in ballot application, or call Elections Nova Scotia at 1-800-565-1504 and we’ll send you one by mail or email. Follow the instructions for completing your application and mail, courier, fax or email it back.
The deadline to submit a write-in ballot application for the by-election by mail is Saturday, August 24 by 6 pm. The deadline to submit a write-in ballot application in-person or by agent is Tuesday, September 3, by 3 pm. Write-in ballots are conducted every day except Sunday during hours the returning office is open.
Once the application is approved by Elections Nova Scotia, you will be sent a write-in ballot kit with instructions. The ballot kit must be returned to Elections Nova Scotia before close of voting, that is, 8 pm on Tuesday, September 3.

By-elections will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, to elect members to serve in the House of Assembly for the electoral districts of Argyle-Barrington, Northside-Westmount, and Sydney River-Mira-Louisbourg. The following days are pursuant to the Elections Act.
