Media Release: Wednesday, August 11, 2021

Elections Nova Scotia – Nova Scotia has a vote anywhere system for the early voting period. During the early voting period (until 6 pm on Saturday, August 14), voters can vote anywhere in Nova Scotia, not just in their electoral district. Community polls, advance polls, and returning offices are open across the province for early voting.

Early voting is available from 9 am – 6 pm Monday – Saturday (closed on Sunday). There will also be extended hours until 8 pm on Thursday, August 12 and Friday, August 13 at all early voting locations.

Voters can still vote early on Monday, August 16, from 9 am – 6 pm at the returning office in their electoral district. On election day, Tuesday, August 17, voters may vote at their assigned voting location or the returning office in their electoral district. On election day, voting will be open from 8 am – 8 pm.

To be eligible to vote for the provincial election voters must be 18 years of age or older on August 17th, a Canadian citizen, have lived in Nova Scotia since January 17, 2021.

COVID precautions are in place at all voting locations to ensure voter safety.

Registered voters should have received a personalized voter information card (VIC) in the mail. Eligible voters can vote without a VIC or ID if they sign a declaration attesting to their eligibility.

Voters are reminded that the deadline to return completed write-in ballots is 8 pm on election night. Voters are asked to please allow adequate time so their completed write-in ballot can be returned. If a voter does not feel there is enough time to return their completed write-in ballot by mail, they can return it in-person to their returning office or have an agent return it on their behalf. Returning offices can also pick up a completed write-in ballot.
