Delayed Opening on Remembrance Day for Early Voting

Media Release: Sunday, November 10, 2024

Elections Nova Scotia – Tomorrow is Remembrance Day, November 11, 2024. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dorothy Rice has adjusted returning office and community poll hours for voters and election workers to observe Remembrance Day.

With the discretion granted to the CEO to establish the office hours in Section 28 of the Elections Act, Ms. Rice has decided that returning offices across the province, as well as community polls that will be operational in designated electoral districts, will be open to the public for early voting on Monday, November 11th from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

“While designated holidays, statutory or not, can occur during an election, Remembrance Day is one of special significance, allowing citizens, not just in Nova Scotia, but across Canada, to reflect, give thanks, and show respect to our veterans,” says Dorothy Rice, Chief Electoral Officer of Nova Scotia. “This delayed opening will allow those working for us to participate in recognition ceremonies with friends and loved ones and demonstrates our acknowledgement as an organization of the importance of honouring the service and sacrifice of those who have served our country.”

Notices are posted at the impacted early voting locations to ensure that hours of operation on November 11th are displayed. The Elections Nova Scotia website has been updated, and the public call centre notified.
