Elections Nova Scotia – Candidate nominations for the provincial general election closed at 2pm today, Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

There are 191 candidates nominated in the 55 electoral districts.

Green Party of Nova Scotia (Green Party): 23 candidates
Nova Scotia Liberal Party (Liberal): 55 candidates
Nova Scotia New Democratic Party (NDP): 55 candidates
Nova Scotians United (NSU): 0 candidates
Progressive Conservative Association of Nova Scotia (PC Party): 55 candidates
Independent(s): 3 candidates

A chart of all nominated candidate names, their party affiliation, and the name of their official agent is available on the Elections Nova Scotia website at electionsnovascotia.ca.

Candidates must complete the nomination documents and have them accepted by the Returning Office, in the electoral district they wish to run, to have their name added to the ballot. The Nomination process includes the following:

  • Filing a completed the Candidate nomination form (form 105) with the returning officer in the electoral district in which the candidate wishes to run
  • Providing the name and contact information of their appointed official agent
  • Providing the name and contact information of their appointed auditor, who must be a public accountant licensed by CPANS to audit
  • Providing nomination papers signed by at least five electors, from the electoral district in which the candidate wishes to run, who are eligible to vote
  • Filing an endorsement letter from the Party leader if the candidate is running for a registered political party
  • Paying a nomination deposit of $200

Prior to an election call, individuals who intend to run as a candidate may register with Elections Nova Scotia to allow them to accept contributions and incur expenses.

Early voting in the provincial general election before the close of candidate nominations is done by write-in ballot. Following the close of candidate nominations, early voting for the provincial general election will be done using Elections Nova Scotia’s secure e-Ballot system.
