Meet Retuning Officer Josephine MacDonald - 40 Year of Election Experience in Action
Media Release: April 24. 2024
Elections Nova Scotia – In 1984 when Josephine MacDonald administered her first election as a Returning Officer the process was completely paper based. Forty years later she is still serving as the Returning Officer for Pictou West, but the current by-election will be her first-time administering e-balloting during the early voting period.
“I have held many election roles, I love being involved in elections, and I’m proud to be one of Elections Nova Scotia’s longest serving Returning Officers,” says Josephine MacDonald, Returning Officer for the provincial electoral district of Pictou West. “Elections have certainly evolved in my time, but the process remains efficient, fair, and balanced.”
Chief Electoral Officer, Dorothy Rice knows the Pictou West by-election is in good hands with Josephine at the helm. A lot may have changed in forty years, but Josephine’s commitment to public service and dedication to the democratic process has not waivered. She has worked all three levels of elections, municipal, provincial, and federal. She knows the electoral process inside and out and always remains non-partisan.
