Out of District Ballots Count

Elections Nova Scotia underestimated the time it would take to count the largest out of district ballot boxes. At about 1030pm election night, we estimated that the 51 out of district boxes would be counted by 11:30pm. Over the next couple of hours, a number of scrutineers left. We require two scrutineers or witnesses to observe the count of each ballot box.

The number of teams counting ballots was reduced from 25 to 20 due to the reduction of scrutineers. This slowed the counting process further.

ENS prioritized accuracy and integrity over expediency.
