Secure In-person e-Ballot for Early Voting

Media Release: Thursday November 14, 2024

Elections Nova Scotia – Secure In-person e-Ballot for Early Voting

Elections Nova Scotia – Early voting is underway for the 42nd provincial general election in Nova Scotia. Election day is Tuesday, November 26, 2024, but voters can cast their ballot before election day at any early voting location in the province or remotely by write-in ballot.

Now that candidate nominations are closed, e-Ballot is the early voting option available at returning offices, community polls and advance polls.

e-Ballot is safe and allows voters to select the candidate of their choice on a secure tablet. e-Ballot allows fast and secure counting of early votes when the polls close on election night. This means the results of the provincial general election will be returned quickly and efficiently.

e-Ballot is not internet voting. Both are electronic forms of voting, but e-Ballot takes place in-person at a voting location on a secure tablet while internet voting facilitates remote voting using the internet. Internet voting is not available in this provincial general election.

Voters can easily find an early voting location near them or their election day voting location by calling their returning office, calling the public call centre at 1-800-565-1504, or entering their civic address in the ‘where do I vote’ tool on Elections Nova Scotia’s website (electionsnovascotia.ca).

Until Saturday, November 23, voters can vote at any early voting location in Nova Scotia, not just in their electoral district. On Monday, November 25, voters can vote at the returning office in their electoral district. On election day, Tuesday, November 26,2024, voters may vote at their assigned voting location or the returning office in their electoral district.

Returning Offices in the 55 electoral districts are open for early voting Mondays to Saturdays, 9 am – 6 pm.

Community polls are also open across the province, Mondays to Saturdays, 9 am – 6 pm until Saturday, November 23.

Advance polls will begin across the province on Saturday, November 16 and run until Saturday November 23.

There will be extended hours at all early voting locations on Thursday, November 21 and Friday, November 22, until 8 pm.

Voting is closed on Sundays.

Voting on election day will be open from 8 am – 8 pm on election day. On election day, voters may vote at their assigned election day voting location or the return office in their electoral district. Traditional paper ballots will be used on election day.

Voters in Nova Scotia that have questions about the provincial general election can call 1-800-565-1504.
