Voters in Preston Can Apply On-line for a Write-in Ballot

Media Release: July 11, 2023

Elections Nova Scotia – Voters in Preston can apply on-line to vote by mail using a write-in ballot in the current by-election. The online application for a write-in ballot kit is available on the Elections Nova Scotia website (electionsnovascotia.ca) or voters in Preston can call the returning office at 1-888-503-5835 to have an application sent to them.

Write-in ballot voting can be facilitated by mail, or a write-in ballot team can visit a voter’s home. Voters who need assistance can have a trusted friend or family member act as the voter’s agent to help them apply for a write-in ballot kit.

Once a voter has applied to vote by write-in ballot, that is the method of voting they must use.

Write-in ballots are conducted every day except Sundays during the hours the returning office is open.

The deadline to apply for a write-in ballot on-line or by mail is Saturday, July 29, 2023 by 6 pm. The application deadline for a write-in ballot in-person or by agent is Tuesday, August 8, 2023 by 3 pm. All completed write-in ballots must be returned by 8 pm on election day, Tuesday, August 8, 2023, to be counted.
