Elections Nova Scotia – A by-election is underway to election a member of the Nova Scotia Legislative Assembly for the electoral district of Preston. Election day is Tuesday, August 8, 2023 but there are early voting options available at the returning office and during the community poll.

Eligible voters in the Preston by-election must be 18 years of age or older on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, a Canadian citizen, reside in the electoral district of Preston, and have lived in Nova Scotia since January 7, 2023 (six months before the writ of election was issued) .

All registered voters in Preston will receive a personal Voter Information Card (VIC) in the mail outlining where and when they can vote. Eligible voters do not need a VIC to vote.

Eligible voters can be added to the voters list during the by-election when they go to vote. Voters in Preston can also use the ‘Where do I Vote?” tool on the Elections Nova Scotia website (electionsnovascotia.ca) to find a voting location near them.

Early voting is available Monday to Friday, 9 am to 6 pm, at the Preston returning office at 293 Main Street. Early voting will also be available from Saturday, July 22 to Saturday July 5 at the community poll at 2345 Highway 7, East Preston. There is no voting on Sundays. On Thursday, August 3 and Friday, August 4 there will be extended hours for voting at early voting locations until 8 pm. Eligible voters in Preston can also apply on-line at electionsnovascotia.ca to vote by mail using a write-in ballot.

Early voting in the Preston by-election will be done by write-in ballot until the close of candidate nominations on July 19. After the close of nominations, safe secure e-balloting will be used for early voting in the Preston by-election. On election day traditional paper ballots will be used.

On election day, Tuesday, August 8, 2023, voting will be open from 8 am to 8 pm. On election day, voters in Preston may vote at their assigned voting location or the returning office.
