The use of Elections Nova Scotia’s new secure e-Ballot system for early voting, following the close of candidate nominations on July 19, allows for fast and efficient counting of early votes. Therefore, the digital tally for the early voting polls will be returned first for the Preston by-election.

More voters are choosing early voting options. This means the largest volume of votes are usually cast during the early voting period. In previous elections, the returning office continuous poll and community poll results took the longest to count given to volume of votes and were the last poll results to be reported on election night. With the e-Ballot system in place, the early voting results will be the first to be reported. The results for the election day polls will take longer to report because they involve counting traditional paper ballots.

Elections Nova Scotia is a non-partisan and independent agency responsible for conducting provincial elections.
