By-election Financial Reporting
Elections Nova Scotia reminds candidates from the three by-elections held on Tuesday, September 3 in the electoral districts of Argyle-Barrington, Northside-Westmount, and Sydney River-Mira-Louisbourg, and the registered parties that financial reports are due in the weeks and months ahead. All reports are to be sent the Chief Electoral Officer.

The attestation that the List of Electors has been destroyed is due on Friday, September 13, 2019.

Candidate tax receipts are due 30 days after election day, Thursday, October 3, 2019.

Candidate financial reports, including audit reports, are due on Monday, December 2, 2019. It is also important to remember that there are fines of $50 per day for late candidate reports.

Registered party financial reports are due on Monday, January 13, 2020.

Candidate and Party Spending Limits for the Argyle-Barrington By-election
Amounts in the Elections Act (updated to include CPI adjustments):
Initial Number of Electors: 12,603 (as of August 2, 2019) Final list 12,473 (as of October 22, 2019)
Candidate Spending Limit: $72,494.60
Maximum Candidate Reimbursement: $20,395.57
Registered Party Spending Limit for each district in which a by-election is being held: $6,471.50

By-elections will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, to elect members to serve in the House of Assembly for the electoral districts of Argyle-Barrington, Northside-Westmount, and Sydney River-Mira-Louisbourg. The following days are pursuant to the Elections Act.

ELECTION DAY  Tuesday, September 3,  8am - 8pm
On election day, you must vote at your assigned voting location or the returning office in your district.
             
ADVANCE POLL  Saturday, August 24 to Saturday, August 31,  9am - 6pm
Thursday, August 29 and Friday, August 30,  9am - 8pm
Closed Sunday, August 25

RETURNING OFFICE   Open Monday to Saturday, 9am - 6pm
Closed Sundays
Thursday, August 29 and Friday, August 30,  9am - 8pm
Election Day - Tuesday, September 3,  8am - 8pm

WRITE-IN BALLOT APPLICATIONS  

By Mail Deadline: Saturday, August 24 by 6pm
In Person and by agent: Tuesday, September 3 by3pm
Write-in ballots conducted every day except Sunday during hours the returning office is open.

NOMINATIONS CLOSE   Wednesday, August 14 at 2pm

TO VOTE    you must be an eligible elector:
            • 18 years of age or older on September 3
            • A Canadian citizen
            • Lived in Nova Scotia since February 2, 2019
            • Resides in one of the electoral district of Argyle-Barrington, Northside-Westmount, or Sydney River-Mira-Louisbourg
