Election Reminders – Extended hours today and What to Bring When You Vote

Media Release: Friday, August 13, 2021

Elections Nova Scotia – Voters are reminded that there are extended hours for early voting until 8 pm today, Friday August 13, 2021. All returning offices and early voting locations (community polls and advance polls) are open today from 9 am – 8 pm.

COVID precautions are in place at all returning offices and voting locations to ensure voter safety.

When voting in-person, voters are asked to wear a mask, sanitize their hands, maintain physical distance and bring their own pen.

The pen is for any paperwork a voter may need to complete to register or update their information. Voters will be given an individual pencil to mark their ballot.

Voters can also bring their VIC and ID but these are not necessary. Eligible voters can register when they vote and take an oath to attest to their eligibility if they do not have current ID.

During the early voting period (until 6pm on Saturday, August 14), voters can vote anywhere in Nova Scotia, not just in their electoral district. Voters can still vote early on Monday, August 16, at the returning office in their electoral district.

On election day, Tuesday, August 17, voters may vote at their assigned voting location or the returning office in their electoral district. Voting will be open from 8 am – 8 pm on election day.

Voting is closed on Sunday.
