Voting Photos of Party Leaders

Media Release: Monday, July 26, 2021

Elections Nova Scotia – Registered party leaders and the candidates running against them may arrange a time with Elections Nova Scotia to allow members of the media to film or photograph them as they cast their ballots.

Section 94(1)(g) of the Elections Act states: media representatives authorized by the Chief Electoral Officer, upon request, to be present and to film or photograph registered party leaders and the candidates running against them, as they cast their ballots.

Other filming and photography is not permitted within returning offices and voting locations.

Filming and photography of registered party leaders or the candidates running against them may only take place when other voters are not present.

Arrangements by registered party leaders and the candidates running against them must be made by calling Naomi Shelton at Elections Nova Scotia in advance of the day, not through the returning officers in the electoral district. It is the responsibility of the registered party leaders or the candidates running against them to invite the media if they wish.
