One Week Remaining in the Preston By-election

Media Release: August 1, 2023

Elections Nova Scotia – There is just one week remaining in the Preston by-election. Election day is Tuesday, August 8, 2023. Voters are encouraged to take advantage of early voting options available at a returning office and community poll.

To be eligible to vote for the Preston by-election, voters must be 18 years of age or older on August 8th, a Canadian citizen, reside in the electoral district of Preston, and have lived in Nova Scotia since January 7, 2023 (six months before the writ of election was issued) .

Registered voters in Preston should have received a voter information card (VIC) in the mail, which includes information on where and when to vote. Voters should remember to bring their VIC and ID when they vote. Eligible voters can vote without a VIC if they have ID with their name and civic address or if they sign a declaration attesting to their eligibility.

Voters who applied to vote by mail are reminded that the deadline to return completed write-in ballots is 8 pm on election night. If a voter does not feel there is enough time to return their completed write-in ballot by mail, they can opt to return it in-person to the returning office or have an agent return it on their behalf.

Voters in Preston that have questions about the by-election can call the returning office at 1-888-503-5835.
