Elections Nova Scotia – Elections Nova Scotia is preparing to deliver a by-election in the electoral district of Preston. The previous Member of the House of Assembly for Preston resigned effective April 1, 2023. According to the House of Assembly Act, a writ must be issued for a by-election six months from the date the vacancy occurred.
Appointed by Nova Scotia’s Chief Electoral Officer, a provincial returning officer administers the electoral process in the electoral district in which they live. The position calls for broad management experience and a variety of skills. The work is diverse, challenging and rewarding. And, by its nature, it is impartial and non-partisan. Elections Nova Scotia – Elections Nova Scotia (ENS) has awarded a contract through the Nova Scotia tender process to Scytl Canada Inc. (Scytl) to develop an internet voting solution.

Elections Nova Scotia - On January 25, 2023, Dorothy Rice, the Chief Electoral Officer for Elections Nova Scotia (ENS) presented budget estimates of $4.671million for the 2023-2024 fiscal year to the Special Committee of the House of Assembly that by law, convenes each year to consider the budget submissions of ENS and the Auditor General.

Elections Nova Scotia – Chief Electoral Officer, Dorothy Rice, has released the third and final volume of post-election reporting for the 41st provincial general election held on August 17, 2021.
The Report of the Chief Electoral Officer on the Proceedings of the 41st Provincial General Election held August 17, 2021, is presented in three volumes. Volume I, Statement of Votes & Statistics [10] was released in January 2022. Volume II, Report on the Conduct of the Election and Recommendations for Legislative Change [11] was released in May 2022.

Elections Nova Scotia – Elections Nova Scotia (ENS) has entered into a Compliance Agreement with Kerry Foss, the Official Agent for the Liberal Electoral District Association (EDA) for the Electoral District of Preston. The compliance agreement covers a breach of the Elections Act related to a loan made by the EDA.
